BW Lotus is first in series of two very large crude carriers(VLCCs) for BW Fleet Management. The vessel was delivered from Chinese Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. at the beginning of 2011. Its sister vessel BW Peony was delivered a few months afterwards. The 320142 DWT BW Lotus is the largest VLCC to be delivered from a chinese shipyard and is the first delivery for BW from Bohai Shipyard of a VLCC. The vessel has double skin configuration with particularly fine lines aft of the ship giving it a smooth flow through water. The BW Lotus also features a shrunken deck at the aft end allowing for more space for machinery and giving better protection against pirates.
The vessel is fitted with Pusnes hydraulic windlasses with large disk brakes instead of the conventional drum brakes used before. The mooring winches are also of Pusnes type. The steering gear is of Wuhan-Kawasaki design, and both the hose handling and provision cranes have been supplied by MacGregor Nanjing. BW Lotus has the cargo capacity of 355,000 cubic metres that is carried in it arrangement of 15 cargo tanks. To handle the cargo the vessel is fitted with three Shinko KV500-2 cargo pumps that have a 5500 cubic metres per hour capacity each. Level Alarms are of the Emerson Saab type. Temperatures and inert gas pressures are measured by three sensors in each of the cargo and slop tanks in the upper middle and bottom sections.
A Wartsila 7RTA84D powers the vessel with an output of 26460kW at 74.4 rpm giving the vessel a speed of 15.5 knots.
